Sinulog 2018, held on January 21, 2018, was a celebration for all. The Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena made it clear that he wanted a family-friendly festival, thus making safety a priority. There were police officers in the streets manning every corner, no cars were allowed in certain areas to give way to revelers and pilgrims to walk around and about the city safely, and there were several units of ambulance on stand by.

Last Sunday, I was with the crowd in Cebu City to witness the event. Sinulog highlights the city’s culture and religion. The most anticipated parade and showdown of street dances started at around 8 but the spectators positioned themselves as early as 6 in the morning with their camera and phones ready to document the grandest festival in the Philippines.
